Looking Out, Looking in
All kinds of artwork can be inspired by the view into or from a window or doorway wherever the location
I was already interested in the macro, high contrast photos of eyes and irises that were already abundant on the internet, therefore I decided to experiment with the notion of 'eyes are the window to the soul'. For this specific idea I looked at the sketch of the skull within an eye by M.C.Escher, which I interpreted to be a visualisation of the person's soul- a concept with which I have become interested in running with.
I decided that I could represent a person's soul through their eyes both metaphorically or more literally such as Escher did. In a more metaphorical sense I would tie in a strong use of colour/shape/typography in order convey a more subtle message. However if it were to be done literally I would overlay images on top of the eyes in the style of Escher in order to make the message more obvious.
In order to juxtapose the macro images of eyes I decided to also create an layered image that shows the view directly from an eye. By overlaying images of doors and windows showing different landscapes and scenes it creates texture and contrast both within itself and with the opposing image. This also means that my interpretations will stay true to the question with it's use of doors and windows but will also allow me to create my own theme and make more free choices.
In order to create yet another level of contrast I intend to mix creative mediums to create my second piece. By layering photographs and different art style such as watercolour and oil paints it will give the piece more texture and depth as well as helping to convey the themes behind each individual layer.
I will create preliminary sketches/paintings in order to gather my ideas and create an accurate template from which to work off of, and so my final piece is to the best possible quality by previously overcoming all issues with it's process. I will use these sketches as evidence within my unit 2 sketchbook, My final piece will be framed for presentation and display with my interpretations and personal analysis printed alongside them.
